The Science of Wellbeing
What is Wellbeing?
This is one of those questions you'll get a different answer to, depending on who you ask!
Wellbeing is a multi-faceted thing, so it's pretty hard to define. It might include; how you feel, how well you're functioning in the various areas of your life, how you're realising your potential & more.
Good wellbeing is not just about the absence of illness or problems. It's about thriving, not just surviving.

A nice definition to describe good wellbeing is "feeling good and functioning well".
What is Mental Health?
The Science of Wellbeing
Flourishing is the term psychologists use to describe experiencing high levels of wellbeing & mental health. According to positive psychologist Martin Seligman, there are 5 building blocks that enable flourishing.
They are:
-
Positive Emotions (i.e. experiencing joy, hope, gratitude, love)
-
Engagement (engaging in activities where you become fully immersed)
-
Relationships (i.e. positive relationships, connection & support)
-
Meaning (i.e. feeling a sense of purpose & belonging)
-
Accomplishment (feeling a sense of achievement)
